Research and Teaching Opportunities
Medical Students
I am able to offer placements for medical students from Manchester and other Universities. Manchester university students can join us for their specialist options. Medical students from other UK or international universities can join us as part of their elective periods. In the past the students working with me have usually been able to get either peer view publications or experience presenting their research work at national specialist societies meetings. Some of he students have won prises for the quality of the work they have undertaken and presented. If you are interested in spending time with us contact me at the address below.
Surgeons in Training
At Wrightington we routinely have placements of specialist registrars in orthopaedics from the North West, Merseyside Oswestry and Welsh rotations. We do our best to accommodate specific requests by the SpRs to work in particular units within Wrightington. We also offer a number of International Fellowship Training posts that are designed either for UK trainees who have completed their training and wish to gain further specialised experience into the management of complex joint replacement or international surgical trainees who wish to gain experience working in the UK in joint replacement. Try to give us as much notice as possible.
We are also able to offer a limited number of self funding observerships and clinical attachments. However we do have to comply with a rigorous screening process involving routine police checks and obtain references from the visitors host institution. Contact address below.
Researchers
I have links with a number of academic institutions. Manchester university, University of Central Lancashire, Leeds University and Edge Hill University. We also work with the National Tissue Bank and industry generally. I am able to offer supervision of researchers studying for higher degrees such as MSc MD PhD MSurg. If you are interested in studying for a higher degree and have research interests that you feel we could accommodate please contact me at the address below.
